Built in 1906 the Victorian style 2½ Story Farm House has served only three farm Families. The Brown Family originally built the house in 1906. They only lived in the house for about 12 years before it was sold to the Butterfield Family around 1918. For many years they grew the large beautiful King Alfred daffodils flowers as depicted in the picture. The date of this picture is unknown as it was found in the attic of the house when Lawrence and Marilyn Paradis moved into the house in 1949.
Lawrence and Marilyn farmed the forty-five acre farm with berries and dairy cows. They operated L&M Ranch Jersey cow dairy until 1970. For many years they sold raw milk in one-gallon glass jars to local families. They raised eight children here and in 1972 sold approximately 40 acres retaining the five acres now containing Easy Storage and the Carriage House Bed & Breakfast.
The house has had a couple of remodel projects. The first major remodel occurred in 1967 when the house was full of kids, the oldest at that time a junior in high school. It was given a "modern" look with the removal of all the wooden windows including two original stained glass windows in the entry area. Aluminum windows, charcoal colored cedar shake siding; lowered ceilings, wood paneling and carpeting were placed throughout. Old push button electrical switches replaced with "modern" lighting switches.
In 1987, with an empty house, Lawrence and Marilyn decided to open their home up to others and completely renovated the house inside and out. Much was restored to its original style. High ceilings, refinished hardwood floors from under the carpeting, wooden porch, restored style windows even the stained glass windows in the entry were replicated from original pictures. The house is furnished with many antiques, fine Persian rugs and beautiful draperies.
Marilyn is a renowned local cook and operated a local delicatessen for a number of years in the 1980s. With the opening of the Carriage House Bed & Breakfast in January 1988, many people came to enjoy her cooking. Her large and varied full breakfasts have earned them many repeat customers. Lawrence, who is fluent in French, is always available for conversation and assist with breakfast duties. A stay at the Carriage House Bed & Breakfast will be one to remember and enjoy.
